People and children with disability are still poor and vulnerable

The focus of the Community Based Rehabilitation program is to treat the PwDs equal with the others in the community, so that they can have the space and opportunities to realise their potentials. At the village level, Village Disabled Peoples’ organisations have been formed in villages of 7 blocks in Yavatmal district of maharashtra. While working with the PwDs, the key focus areas of interventions are health, education, livelihood enhancement and empowerment.  To address the issues of people living with disability various groups fromed as VDPO, Child support groups to support children with disabilities, Care giver group for daily living skill support. GSMT has also facilitated the formation of Block level Disabled Peoples’ Organization (BDPO) in 7 blocks of Yavatmal district. There are 60 General body Members from 30 VDPOs and 11 Governing members. The key function of these BDPOs is to raise the issues and concerns of the people with disabilities with the appropriate authorities at the block level as well as to disseminate the information relating to schemes and programs of the government at the village level and also to help the PwDs get linked with the schemes of the Government. The other function is to put forward the issues which are not resolved at block level to district level DPO.

Community based Monitoring

Community based monitoring and planning is crucial at village level to monitor the health activities for better access and quality services. At village level and PHC level. Sathi Sehat, Pune is supporting this project with support of NRHM govt of India. To improve the functioning of the PHCs, public hearing organised at PHC level and also at the block level. The impact of the Public Hearing is the improvement in the functioning of PHCs in terms of availability of medicines, regular immunization and availability of Rabies vaccine at PHC level and most importantly improvement in the behaviour of PHC staff resulting into better functioning of PHCs.

Health interventions with FSW, MSM, Migrant and PLHIV.

In Yavatmal district there are community who are mostly vulnerable as female sex workers, transgender person, Migrants and People living with HIV/AIDs. Government of Maharashtra through MSACS initiated the programme for these vulnerable community to take care of their health. Screening, testing, treatment and behaviour change are major component to take care. Due to this aspect prevalence of STI and HIV/AIDs  reduced and also improved the overall status of health. These community also formed their group and committees to manage their issues and orient their community on their own.
